If the weather would get better I would hit some balls. Have we all said that at one time or another? The last week did allow me to hit a few balls. Every time I walk down the Practice Tee I get an opportunity to talk about my favorite subject, learning more about Golf and more importantly to meet some new friends.
I am proud to say I have lost 12 pounds in the last month. The coming week will put me in the gym. Together with the folks at Anytime Fitness we will be putting a Golf Fitness Program together that will help my golf swing more than hitting a thousand balls. This program will be offered to you very soon. Any of you that have had a lesson from me over the last 15 years know how much I focus on flexibility, and core strength for very good reason.
I remember a "Playing with the Pro's" segment from the Golf Channel featuring Colin Montgomery. He offered most of the normal comments about playing at the Tour level, except one. He talked about the one thought he has before He hits a shot in tournament play, Make a complete swing. He went on to explain that in order to make a good shoulder turn you must have core flexibility. Secondly, the change of direction requires balance and core strength to turn back toward the ball then on to the target. And last but not least the arms, hands must get the club on plane and path for powerful blow to be delivered through the ball to the target.
I would add one more thing to those thoughts, alignment. Tour Players don't worry about that much because their Pre-swing routine is so good they are on line 99 % of the time. As a teacher I can say that most swing faults I deal with are caused by poor alignment. There is a good reason I hit balls next to a board....
I will keep you informed on my progress in the gym. See you on the practice tee.
Mike
