Here is the first installment in bringing my swing back to form.
Today the temp was over 50. While not warm yet, it was OK for hitting a few balls. No putting practice for me today, I went straight for the drills that I knew would get me on track the quickest. Seventy balls or so later I could actually feel my core turning and my lower body wiggling like a worm on a hook. Then a few half swings to see if I could keep the ball on line. Believe it or not but i actually made a couple of fair swings. Mostly my shoulders would stop short of impact and the club went off path to the left.
There are several areas that I need to work on. My body has lost flexibility over the past two years that I have not hit any balls. To fix that I must have a daily dose of stretching and work in some aerobic exercise. Pumping a little iron would not hurt either. You know the old saying," use it or loose it", is as true for golf ability as anything else. I might as well mention DIET, the hardest of all to do. If you think that my flexibility has gone you should see my waistline. Lest just say I have lost 12 pounds so far since I found out I was coming back to Reunion.
Over the years I have had so many students come to me with the same problems I now face. I told them then and I told myself today, we can get better. The words I have used for years still apply, DEDICATION, DETERMINATION AND DISCIPLINE.
Dedicated to getting better
Determined to keep going no matter what
Disciplined enough to know that the fundamental approach is the only one
Warm regards to all, see you on the practice tee...
Mike
